The Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, University of Maiduguri, was established in 1983 as the first mass communication training centre in the North East Zone of Nigeria. It was established to address the needs of the country through the training and development of communications and media professionals particularly in the University’s immediate surrounding areas, neighbouring countries and beyond.

Enrolment into the Department has continued to make strides since 1983. Similarly, the academic programmes of the Department have expanded to include postgraduate studies leading to the award of M.Sc., and PhD.

The Department was established to address the needs of the country through the training and development of communications and media professionals particularly in the University’s immediate surrounding areas and even neighboring countries like Republics of Chad, Cameroon and Niger.  The mission of the programme is to train communication scholars and professionals with wide liberal arts education to contribute to the process of development in the context of a globalizing world. 

PUBLICATION ETHICS:

Media and Communication currents is dedicated to following best practices on ethical matters:

·  The prevention of publication malpractice .Any kind of unethical behaviour is not acceptable. The Journal’s  editorial team does not tolerate plagiarism in any form.

·  Authors submitting articles to Media and Communication Currents asserts that manuscript contents are original and are not under consideration in any other journal at the time of submission.

·  The Editorial Team of Media and Communication Currents shall take reasonable steps to identify and prevent the publication of papers where research misconduct has happened . The Journal shall nor shall not in anyway encourage such misconduct, or knowingly allow such misconduct to take  happen.

·   In the event that the journal is made aware of any research it shall  shall deal with appropriately through  corrections, clarifications, retractions and apologies as the case may be.

·  The  journals ensure’s that  informtion of authors for any  manuscripts submitted is kept confidential. Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used in an editor's own research without the express written onsent of the author.

CRITERIA FOR PUBLICATION:

·     All original article is submitted to Media and Communication Currents subjectted to anonymous peer-review. The reviewers  will make any of these recommendation: Publishable in its present form, Publishable with minor corrections, Publishable with major corrections, Not publishable in its present form  and Not publishable.

·        All published articles are archived in Ramat Library, University of Maiduguri. Electronic version is available on the University of Maiduguri portal.
